Building a marine infrastructure legacy - Couran Cove kicks off

Work began on Southeast Queensland's Couran Cove Eco Resort on South Stradbroke Island in early 1997. The $150million, two-stage project included 192 beachside apartments, marina and recreational facilities built over water. The project was complex - designed on an environmentally sensitive 151 ha site, this project called for rigid adherence to an environmental management plan which specified the total preservation of natural habitats. Located on an island, only accessible by water, it also required careful planning of materials and logistics to deliver the project on time and on budget.

"This has to be one of the world’s most superb locations for what we believe will be a truly magnificent holiday and residential resort."

Ron Clarke, Chief Executive Interpacific Resorts Australia Pty Ltd on Couran Cove

#Couran Cove Resort was delivered two months ahead of schedule in November 1998 and helped establish our strong foundations in the marine infrastructure sector.

In the same year, construction was also well underway for the Riviera Terraced Villas - a three-level residential complex on the banks of the Brisbane River at Southbank.

The company then worked on several other prominent waterside developments, including Docklands and Riverlight on Hamilton Reach in Brisbane, and then segued onto White Water World on the Gold Coast.

BESIX Watpac has more recently delivered marine projects including Sydney's Overseas Passenger Terminal and continues working today with Transport for NSW on upgrading the harbour's Ferry Wharf network and Brisbane City Council's Kangaroo Point Green Bridge.
