Building starts on the transformative Queensland Country Bank Stadium

Watpac was appointed in May 2017 as the Managing Contractor for the new $318 million Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville. Home of the North Queensland Cowboys rugby league team, the 25,000 seat multi-purpose stadium was structurally completed in late 2019 and held its first event on 22 February 2020. The stadium was constructed largely by locals and hundreds of businesses in the region's supply chain were engaged. We also achieved 11.9% Indigenous participation, almost doubling our target - this was a pivotal project that set us on our reconciliation journey.

#Almost five years in the making, Queensland Country Bank Stadium was a transformative, once-in-a-generation opportunity for North Queensland.

Part of the historic Townsville City Deal and the new home of the North Queensland Cowboys, the high-profile project involved significant local community engagement and five funding partners, including Local, State and Federal Governments. Our responsibility was to ensure that the world-class, multi-purpose regional stadium was delivered with maximum local economic and social benefits.

Queensland Country Bank Stadium won the Project of the Year award, Best Sporting Facilities award and Excellence in Workplace Health & Safety at the 2020 Master Buildings Queensland Construction Awards.
