Delivering Excellence

Delivering an outstanding user experience

The new velodrome built as a centrepiece for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games opened its doors in 2016. Named in honour of Anna Meares who is one of the country's most decorated Olympians, the champion cyclist rode the first lap around the $59 million world-class cycling venue on 12 November 2016. The velodrome joined our growing list of award-winning sporting venues designed and constructed by our team of stadia experts. It was named Queensland Sporting Facility of the Year and received the National President's Award at the Master Builders annual awards. It is also Queensland’s first indoor velodrome and consists of a 250-metre timber track and two 180-degree circular bends connected by two straights.

#Another highlight of 2016 was industry recognition for our team’s professional excellence in safety on the Sydney Overseas Passenger Terminal Upgrade.

Watpac was awarded the Office of the Federal Safety Commissioners National Excellence in Workplace Health and Safety Award at the Master Builders’ National Awards. This award acknowledged the Overseas Passenger Terminal team’s efforts in integrating safety in project planning through to completion to ensure work could be undertaken while the terminal continued to operate. More than one million passenger movements were recorded at the terminal throughout the construction period, requiring meticulous planning and controls from our team. Since then, we've won multiple awards for our commitment to safety on a number of our projects.

In 2016 BESIX Watpac recorded a record work-in-hand level of nearly $1.6 billion as of 30 June 2016.

New contracts in Queensland included the $188 million Mary Lane hotel and residential precinct, the $95 million Newstead Series residential project (our first for JGL Properties) and the $56 million Department of Defence’s 17th Construction Squadron project. The business also commenced works on Frasers Property Australia’s $78 million Riverlight - Hamilton Reach residential development.

In New South Wales, work commenced on the $264 million Ryde Garden residential development contract in northwest Sydney and the $62 million Summer Hill Flour Mill residential project.

In Victoria, work commenced on the $291 million Victorian New Schools PPP, the $47 million Union Tower in Melbourne and the $35 million expansion of the Frankston Private Hospital.
