Delivering Excellence

Establishing a North Queensland presence

On the 26th of February 1998, Queensland State Premier Rob Borbidge officially opened the $7million Watpac refurbishment of the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre.

Following the project's success and to service ongoing construction and refurbishment projects in the northern Queensland region, Watpac established a permanent office in the city of Townsville.

#The BESIX Watpac Townsville office is still open today, with our northern workbook remaining strong.

Continuing to build upon our northern Queensland foundations, BESIX Watpac is currently building the James Cook University Technology Innovation Complex on the Bebegu Yumba (Townsville) campus, and recently wrapped up a complex refurbishment of Sugar Terminals Limited (STL) sheds at its Townsville bulk sugar terminal. Both projects have created much-needed job opportunities for the region.

In January of 1998, Watpac also completed Queensland’s first major satellite station at Ningi, near Bribie Island north of Brisbane to improve local mobile phone network coverage - one of only 12 in the world at the time. And, the company continued its focus on health and safety winning the Queensland Master Builder's Award for Excellence in Health and Safety for Brisbane's 75 William Street development.
